After the abortion you will wake up in the recovery room with our nurse and her assistant where you will begin your recuperation. You will have an IV in your arm, as well as possible cramping and bleeding. Cramps are expected as the uterus returns to its normal size after the pregnancy is removed. Your vital signs and bleeding are monitored for 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on the type of anesthesia you received. When you are awake, alert, your vital signs have returned to baseline (pre-operative levels), and your bleeding is under control you will be considered for discharge.
